A local website

For those of you unfamiliar with the healthcare system in the UK, healthcare is provided by the NHS. It is a free service available to everyone. To be eligible for this service you must first register with a local doctor, general practitioner (GP) of your choice.

The list of GPs appears below. If you should need specialist care, your GP will refer you to the appropriate specialist. It is at this point that you can choose to stay within the NHS or see a specialist privately. For more information on the NHS, an excellent booklet is available at GP practices.

If you need advice you can also call the NHS direct on 0845 4647 and speak to a nurse.

If you need urgent medical attention you can call the NHS as above, contact your GP, go to the nearest hospital (Macclesfield General Hospital) or call 999 for an ambulance.
